What is it about?

Choosing appropriate repertoire for a developing student is particularly challenging for violists. This article lists and describes repertoire for students from beginning through intermediate levels, preparing them for more familiar artists-level repertoire with a particular emphasis on less familiar pieces. The article also discusses how to choose material and what to look for in selecting repertoire.

Why is it important?

There has been excellent progress in the availability of quality repertoire for young violists. In addition there has been a significant increase in the number of students playing viola at younger ages with higher levels of accomplishment. This article provides a list of less familiar pieces to facilitate their development, taking students intermediate to artist-level repertoire.
