What is it about?

This article describes the evidence for upregulation of the NFKB pathway in pteryigum

Why is it important?

The NFkB pathway is a commom proinflammatory pathway involved in tumor formation and immune dysfunction. If NFKB is involved in pteryigum, there may be a way to treat it based on existing drugs that target this pathway.

Perspectives

NF kB inhibitors are already available in oncology. Perhaps repurposing of some of these drugs and injected locally into the pterygium can be a non surgical treatment, or an adjunct to cases with higher risk of recurrence.
