Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Potentially Caused by Respiratory Syncytial Virus and a Diatom

What is it about?

Both organisms are (diatom and RSV) atypical causes of ARDS in adults. There are no reports in the literature of cases in which a marine diatom infection was associated with lower respiratory tract symptoms, and the mechanism by which this type of infection occurs is unknown.
