What is it about?

Tangible itinerary recommendation is importent for tourists within a specific POI, like museums. We proposed a novel travel route recommendation system based on tourists' smart phones and IoT technology. We used smart phones to collect onsite travel behavior of tourists and leveraged a novel frequent pattern mining algorithm to generate tangible travel routes. Finally, we designed a route-recommending methodto search and rank tangible travel routes according to the querying tourist’s profile and constraint. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system is efficient and effective in recommending POI-oriented tangible travel routes considering tourists’ route constraints and personal profile while ensuring that the suggested routes have considerable route values.

Why is it important?

Our experiments show that the use of smart phones and IoT technology can greatly help tourists to improve the travel experience and convenience within a specific POI.

Perspectives

I believe the insight of this work is to collect onsite travel behavior data of historical tourists to generate personalized tangible travel routes for various new coming tourists. Although there might be some imperfections in the current work due to our knowledge and technology limitations, I still believe that the current work could make a contribution to the fields of mobile computing and route recommending.
