What is it about?

Understanding MHC-II antigen presentation under normal and /or pathological conditions is of high importance in order to understand the control of autoimmune responses and to modulate strong responses against infections, cancer and other diseases. The general pathway of antigen presentation by MHC-II is described and the different steps in this pathway are highlighted. Proteolysis is a major process in which participate various components including lysosomal cathepsins and their protein inhibitors cystatins thus controlling endosomal proteolytic machinery.
