What is it about?
Quantum layout synthesis is the process to map quantum circuits to the target hardware. To fulfill hardware restriction, we may need to introduce extra quantum gates in the circuits during the process. Thus, its solution quality largely affects the performance of the quantum circuit as the additional gates inject more errors into the computation. Due to its complexity, it cannot be solved in efficiently. To this end, we propose a multilevel-based method which integrates a method with long runtime and high performance and a method with short runtime and inferior performance to achieve a good balance between solving time and the solution quality.

Why is it important?
It is the first work apply multilevel framework to solve quantum-related problems. We demonstrate a novel circuit-device co-clustering strategy to generate good problem approximation. In addition, we provide some analysis to the performance of multilevel framework on different architectures.
