What is it about?

We compared the natural gestures (hands and fingers) adults and kids use on large touch screens mounted on the wall and touch screen tables in a science center. We found kids use more gestures, and both groups use different gestures on the wall mounted and tabletop screens.

Why is it important?

We want to be able to harness more gestures than traditional tap and swipe to help people explore data visualizations for learning about science such as climate and natural hazards.

Perspectives

Making learning easier for people is always the goal. Helping interactive technologies respond to what people expect is a big step in that direction so that people can focus on the content presented.
