What is it about?
There is a growing number of open-access academic journals, many of low standard. this has encouraged authors in developing countries who do not have experience of academic publishing to produce low-quality work. This paper describes how South African Computer Journal attempted to assist such authors by providing useful feedback.

Why is it important?
The growing number of low-quality open access journals is a challenge for those trying to build an academic career in emerging academia. Pressures to publish can result in wasting their research outputs on low-quality journals with a poor or even nonexistent standard of review.
