What is it about?

With the arrival of Industry 4.0, industrial systems has become more interconnected, thus we call these new systems as industrial cyber-physical systems where IT and OT systems are merged. Hence, we cannot apply previous cybersecurity measures to these systems. The paper surveys the latest cybersecurity trends of industrial cyber-physical systems.

Why is it important?

Surveys analyses several industrial vulnerability reports and evaluates what academia offers for top ten vulnerabilities. It defines the difference of OT and IT systems. It presents a dynamic cyberattack taxonomy. It analyses the previous industrial cyber incidents based on this taxonomy. It gives an insight about industrial protocols. It also presents how we can secure the industrial cyber-physical edge resources.

Perspectives

This might be a long article (35 pages) but I believe it summarizes many aspects ranging from industrial communication protocols to cyberattack taxonomies, and vulnerabilities to solutions offered by the academia. As the current industrial environments are highly heterogenous and dynamic, we need to replace the proposed old solutions a new adaptive ones. I hope this survey will provide you some insight if you also working on industrial domain.
