What is it about?

The 'Eight Investments That Work for Physical Activity' is a global physical activity advocacy document published by the International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH) in 2020. The full document is accompanied by an 'advocacy toolkit', supporting physical activity advocates around the world to make the case for investment and action to create a more physically active world. This 2020 version updates the previous 2011 version, colloquially known as the '7 Best Investments', a document also published by ISPAH.

Why is it important?

Globally, around one in four adults and four in five adolescents are insufficiently active, and inequities in participation exist by geography, sex and socioeconomic status. Advocacy is the best tool to persuade decision-makers to combat the high level of physical inactivity. A key tenet of successful public health advocacy is gaining consensus on ‘what works’. ISPAH’s Eight Investments That Work for Physical Activity provides eight areas for action, supporting the WHO Global Action Plan on Physical Activity 2018–2030.
