What is it about?

Although the land surface area covered by the cloud forest in Mexico is comparatively small, its moss flora is one of the richest in the country. The number of species in this moss flora is unknown, but a preliminary catalogue is given for Veracruz in this contribution.

Why is it important?

The moss flora has a history that may be parallel or complementary to the vascular plant flora. The first step to unveil this history and the events that have affected its distribution, it is necessary to have a fairly complete catalogue of species.

Perspectives

This is one of several projects on the distribution of Mexican mosses along and around the Neovolcanic Belt of Mexico.
