What is it about?

We have looked at the overall research landscape on physical activity and aging. We wanted to know how is the field maturing. For that we analysed about 10,000 publications.

Why is it important?

We felt that there was no real summary of how the field of aging and physical activity is progressing. Aging is a big issue and we know that being active it great to improve health and well-being also in older adulthood. So, we wanted to see where are we going and what might need to be done in the future to make sure older adults are active for their health.

Perspectives

I personnally think that this paper provided a great overview on the research on physical activity and aging. For everyone who wants to know where the field is heading this is the paper to check. I learned that the increase in research output is especially strong when important manuscripts were published (WHO Physical Activity Guidelines in 2010 for example). The field is becoming more and more important and I hope we will see more research from developing regions.
