What is it about?

neuropathic pain and complex regional pain syndrome are both very painful conditions . This article shows how an investigation like ultrosonography can help distinguish between the two conditions which often indistinguishable from one another

Why is it important?

Both neuropathic pain(NeuP) and complex regional pain syndrome(CRPS) are extremely painful which have difficult to treat because the basic cause of these conditions is unknown. This article shows that there is a definite muscle abnormality in both conditions which causes both the pain and the disability . So it is actually a neuromyopathy since it causes muscle abnormality. Dry needling of the affected muscles , a novel treatment, reverses both these conditions with not only pain relief but also a relief of disability in both conditions

Perspectives

We have been looking at neuropathy as neuromyopathy which involves motor nerves. I have had spectacular success in treating both Neup and CRPS with dry needling . In this article we show an objective proof of muscle abnormality in both conditions which provides a logical reason for the use of dry needling for their reversal. This is a novel concept and a novel treatment butone which has stood the test of time over 12 years at our centre where CRPS reversal has become routine as well as reversal of various neuropathic pain conditions like post surgical pain, PHN, diabetic neuropathy, peripheral neuropathies and trigeminal neuragia to name a few
