What is it about?
It is widely considered that fructose-1,6-bisphosphate relays metabolic signals to central transcription factors such as Cra in E. coli and CggR in B. Subtilis. We biochemically characterize the interactions of Cra and CggR with metabolite effectors. In contrast to the current notion, we find that Cra binds fructose-1-phosphate, but not fructose-1,6-bisphosphate, and CggR from B. subtilis interacts with fructose-1,6-bisphosphate in the physiological millimolar concentration range.
