Why is it important?

Despite engaging parents in the NICU is well-acknowledged as a critical aspect of family-centered care for preterm infants, fathers are rarely included in qualitative studies on parental experience of NICU and preterm birth. This review is potentially helpful for NICU staff in order to prioritize fathers' needs and care actions during the NICU healthcare journey.

Perspectives

Recognizing fathers' needs in the NICU is a critical step in order to develop dedicated and individualized support, in a family-centered fashion.
