What is it about?

This article shows the age-dependent change of human hair by focusing on cuticle damage. There are two typical patterns of cuticle damage. In this study, it was revealed that the dominant damage pattern shifts with aging and the transitional age range was 40s. This shift of damage pattern accelerates cuticle loss and reduction of fatty acid caused by weathering on elder hair. It has been reported that various age-dependent changes of whole hair shaft occur in the age range of forties and fifties. In this study it was revealed that cuticle also changes in the same age range and leads to deterioration of hair surface property.
