Why is it important?

This research fills in a gap in the literature since existing research on the effect of differences in rhetorical structure on ESL readers’ recall of narrative and expository texts has not investigated learners’ awareness of particular text structures and their recall of texts written in those structures (Carrell, 1984a, 1984b, 1985).
