What is it about?

The aim of the article was to test the assumption that authors in the UK, Australia and New Zealand changed their research approaches due to the government research frameworks that assess university outputs in those thee countries. Using qualitative methods, we did find that authors in the area of accounting were mindful of these frameworks when deciding on research projects.

Why is it important?

While work had been done previously in this area, there was little known about the area of accounting research specifically, nor had there been a comparative study across the three countries with national research frameworks

Perspectives

My background as a publisher of academic journals in business and management meant that I was sure the evidence would be there to back up the argument presented, but there was a need to combine what was merely a hunch with academic rigour, which was provided by my estimable co-author and Editor of one of the journals I managed at the time.
