What is it about?
The prevalence of "fakes" of sculpture, drawings and prints (etchings and lithographs) by the British Sculptor Henry Moore is estimated by adapting a method used to evaluate the accuracy of medical screening tests. The results show that a very high proportion of small sculptures and drawings advertised to be by Moore were not. In contrast, most signed and numbered limited edition prints were genuine; especially if there was not a related edition of unsigned prints.

Why is it important?
The results show that when one is purchasing an expensive item on eBay or on-line in general, one should be very careful to make sure it is genuine and the website reliable.
Perspectives
I hope the article stimulates similar studies of items offered on line, so consumers know when they should be very careful.
