What is it about?

According to well-known theory tannins may precipitate proteins. Our paper broke that theory. We showed that tannins may precipitate not only proteins but also other organic N compounds: arginine, insulin, polyamines, nitrogen bases, chitin and chitosan.

Why is it important?

Precipitation of organic N-containing compounds other than protein by tannins can potentially affect reactions in all biochemical mixtures including tannins and these organic nitrogen compounds, and affect soil N cycling.
