What is it about?

CBCT is increasingly popular in dentistry. At the same time, peri-implant disease is a rising concern. This paper explored the evidence about CBCT performance in diagnosis of peri-implant defects and factors which could influence it's diagnostic ability.

Why is it important?

Currently there are no guidelines for CBCT use in peri-implant disease diagnostics. Standard periapical X rays have many limitations. As early and precise diagnosis can help in improved treatment of peri-implantitis, an understanding of how CBCT performs in this domain is important.

Perspectives

Our objective in this article was to explore the factors that impact how CBCT fares as a diagnostic tool in peri-implant bone loss situations. Several interesting observations emerged from this synthesis, such as a key role of defect morphology. We hope the insights from the article can open up new and important questions.
