What is it about?

The focus of this study is eportfolios, developed for purposes of promotion, in a vocational higher education context. The paper argues that the context will strongly influence the purposes of eportfolio development and the extent to which university teachers can be critically reflective in a “high stakes” context.

Why is it important?

The findings can help university appointments and promotions committees, as well as educational developers, to better understand the enablements and constraints of context on eportfolios in order to inform policy and implementation.

Perspectives

The process of working on this article helped me to become reflective about my own practices as an educational developer, as well as to develop more insight into academics' concerns with regard to critically reflecting on their roles as university teachers.
