What is it about?

This article describes a new way to describe learners technically, so that they are characterised based on their understanding of a topic. This technical representation is then used in an experiment to match learners together, based on how similar or different their understanding is.

Why is it important?

The research in this article is unique as it uses natural language processing techniques to create learner profiles. It also presents a solution to discover interesting mismatches between learners, that can trigger experiences of breakdown and potential learning with the learner.

Perspectives

This was very interesting interdisciplinary research. I worked with the social networking site Scoop.it! and enjoyed bringing together aspects of learning sciences, linguistics and computer sciences. While doing this research, I really felt that it was innovative work, and the feedback on it has confirmed this.
