What is it about?

Using university employee samples in the U.S. and China, we showed that workplace conflict mediated the relationships between lack of interpersonal justice and organizational effectiveness (performance, OCBs, & CWBs). Employees' harmony value buffered such relationships in China, but intensified these relationships in the U.S.

Why is it important?

Harmony is a central value in China; it received less attention in the Western world. Knowing how harmony will guide employees' workplace interpersonal behaviors is critical in today's globalized management.

Perspectives

I enjoy this line of research. It's a pleasure to link personal value (harmony) with professional field of industrial/organizational psychology. While workplace mistreatment is becoming a wide-spread job stressor and affects millions at the workplace, approaching it with Eastern philosophy & value might provide Western managers a new perspective. On earth, team work is essential, and good interpersonal relationship is valuable resource to everyone. How can harmony play a positive role in facilitating occupational health & the global economy?
