What is it about?

We use a mix of fishmeal to replace in different percentages the fishmeal. The diets were used to feed shrimp cultured in biofloc a low salinity. The growth and survival were similar. In general the digestive enzymatic activity was greater in the BFT, compared with clear water (control).

Why is it important?

The fishmeal is scarce and expensive. The use of pelagic fishes to produce shrimp feed is not a sustainable practice. The hiper-intensive culture systems provides live food to complement and enhance the shrimp nutrition.

Perspectives

The results could contribute to partially replacement of fishmeal in the shrimp feed, as well as to promote the use of BFT systems.
