What is it about?

The 'books' of Chilam Balam were manuscripts written in Yucatek Maya that were discovered in Yucatan, Mexico during the historic period. These manuscripts appear to be transcriptions of pre-Conquest texts that were written before the Spanish Conquest of Yucatan presumably in ancient Maya codices. They contain a great deal of important information about Maya religion. In this case, Knowlton compares creation myths that occur across several different manuscripts.
