What is it about?
It investigates the dynamics of violent conflict among the Issa and Afar pastoralist that lasted for more than seven decades. Despite many interventions the violence continues unabated requiring scientific explanation that this article provides explanation for its perpetuation.

Why is it important?
Unlike preceding work on pastoralist Issa and Afar that essentialized violence to the identity and culture of the two communities,this article shade light on other structural factors that made violence appear inherent to them. Thus, it gives fresh perspective for understanding Issa-Afar violence and pastoral violence. It also adds to our theoretical understanding of the intractability of violence.
Perspectives
It departs radically from the way studies on pastoral society are done and documented.
