What is it about?

Bariatric surgery is an important treatment for resistent-clinical obesity. However, a subset of post-bariatric patients could exhibit weight regain. This paper summarizes the actual scientific evidence in the association between weight regain and behaviors (depression, binge eating, loss of control eating, grazing).

Why is it important?

We found that the post-bariatric patients with eating psychopathology (loss of control eating, binge eating, grazing) have a 2.2 higher risk to exhibit weight regain. This finding could help health professionals to consider eating psychopathology when post-bariatric patients show weight regain.

Perspectives

I hope this article could help professionals, involved in the bariatric patients assistance, think about mental health relevance in this field.
