What is it about?

What management practices are important to help minorities such as part-time nurses fulfill their potential? To address this issue, our study investigates the relationship between diversity climate, work-related communication, and psychological empowerment among part-time nurses. The study found that among the work-related communication components, “expressing thoughts about their work” fully mediated the relationship between diversity climate and psychological empowerment.

Why is it important?

Our findings indicated that encouraging minorities to express their work-related opinions and providing them opportunities to voice out could be effective ways to empower them. The results also suggested that diversity climate can encourage minorities to express thoughts about their work. This study showed that diversity climate and voice are beneficial not only for diversity in race and gender, which has been focused on, but also for minorities with diverse backgrounds, including working style.

Perspectives

Diversity is a very important topic today and for the future. I hope this study will lead to effective practices for minorities from diverse backgrounds and the healthcare organizations that embrace them.
