What is it about?

The R451C mutation in Neuroligin 3 is associated with highly penetrant autism in Swedish families. We show a deficit of synaptic plasticity in the dorsal striatum of the R451C-Neuroligin 3 experimental model, and that an altered cannibinoid drive may cause this alteration.

Why is it important?

This is the first report of a significant alteration of synaptic plasticity in the dorsal striatum of an ASD model. Supporting the endocannabinoid system ameliorates the deficit.
