What is it about?
In Saudi Arabia, many parents believe that private special education institutes offer better education than public ones. This study compared one public and one private institute for students with intellectual disabilities, interviewing parents, teachers and principals to understand what really differs between them.

Why is it important?
The key difference was workplace culture, which shaped several observable factors affecting the quality of provision. Understanding this helps show how public institutes can better meet the needs of all students with intellectual disabilities, not only those whose families can afford private provision.
Perspectives
Every student with intellectual disabilities deserves high-quality education, whatever their family's income. I hope this study helps public institutes learn from the workplace practices that make a real difference to the quality of provision.
