What is it about?
In this paper, an analogy between the vector and direct thrust (torque) control methods for linear induction machines is given and used to justify combining the the two control methods to come up with a unified controller that provides faster dynamics than vector control and smother performance than direct thrust control. End effect is also considered in the modeling and control system design.

Why is it important?
This paper proposes a Linear Induction Motor control system to achieve very fast machine dynamics with rather smooth operation over a wide operating conditions taking into account end effect. The paper is also aimed at a control system comparable to the conventional Vector or DTC in terms of system complexity including signal measurement requirement and on-line computational burden.
