What is it about?

Abstract— As a consequence of the increasing penetration of small photovoltaic (PV) systems to distribution networks worldwide, utilities and regulators have issued relevant codes or guides for connecting PV stations. In Egypt, connection of small PV stations to Low Voltage (LV) should comply with the requirements of the Technical Requirements for Connecting Small-Scale PV Systems to LV Distribution Networks (ssPV Code). The Electricity Distribution Code (EDC) should also be considered for successful operation. This paper discusses first the basic information on technical requirements for connecting small-scale PV stations to LV distribution networks in Egypt. Then, practical measurements of a 200 kW photovoltaic station are presented to confirm the compliance of the PV station to both the ssPV code and the EDC. The measurements include voltage, frequency, current unbalance and harmonic distortions.

Why is it important?

This paper presents technical requirements and criteria for connecting small-scale PV generating stations to LV distribution networks in Egypt. Practical measurements of a 200 kW photovoltaic station are presented to show the compliance of the PV station to both the ssPV code and the EDC. The measurements include voltage, frequency and harmonic distortions using a power analyzer instrument for a duration of one week.
