Why is it important?
Both rumors and their rebuttals contain claims of the truth. Hence, they may not be easily distinguishable to the naked eye. If users fail to separate the two, rebuttals will fail to serve their purpose.
Perspectives
Online opinion leaders were not superior than common users in crafting high quality rumor rebuttals. This counter-intuitive finding suggests that it is high time opinion leaders start creating online content befitting of their status in the community. Only then can we hope for a better and healthier cyberspace.
