What is it about?

Research on résumé screening has overly emphasised minorities’ discrimination, disregarding how résumés varying in gender, education and national origin are screened by managers and recruiters. This study shows that in the Portuguese context, non-nationals (i.e. Chinese and British second-generation immigrants) are not discriminated against, but HE and women are preferred to perform entry-level accounting clerk jobs. The findings show that hiring discrimination can be averted once résumés are ‘in-group like.’
