What is it about?

This research investigates how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Mexico adapt to sustainability challenges by examining the roles of regulatory, normative, and cultural-cognitive factors. Through interviews with stakeholders from eight SMEs, the study reveals that these businesses strategically align with government regulations and societal expectations, influenced significantly by consumer preferences. Internal organizational norms and cultural values, including leadership practices, are critical in reinforcing sustainability initiatives, emphasizing the need for a supportive culture. The study provides a framework to understand these complex interactions, offering practical insights for SMEs on navigating sustainability. It highlights strategies such as regulatory compliance, fostering a culture of sustainability, and exploring industry collaborations to drive meaningful change, providing a nuanced understanding of sustainability dynamics in Mexican SMEs.
