What is it about?
The study examines the trend of adopting ISO 14001 in Macao, the motivations for Macao's organizations to adopt ISO 14001, and the perceived benefits of implementing ISO 14001 using a quantitative survey instrument, and follow-up interviews with environmental management representatives.

Why is it important?
The diffusion of ISO 14001 in a service-based economy follows a logistic-growth function (as reported by To et al., 2014 article entitled "diffusion of ISO 14001 environmental management system: global, regional and country-level analyses"). Interviews with management representatives revealed that top management commitment and employee training are critical factors for achieving success in implementing ISO 14001.
Perspectives
The adoption of ISO 14001 has a positive influence on organizational environmental performance. It is expected that more and more service organizations in Macao will be certified to ISO 14001, including those casino operators and management companies of hotels. In addition, we validated that the adoption of ISO 14001 follows a logistic growth pattern as suggested by To and Lee (2014). Reference To, W.M. and Lee, P.K.C.
