We investigate how being an expatriate versus being a citizen leader affects how leaders perform and how this fact inclines them to stick to established procedures or deviate and potentially add innovative value to their organization.

Why is it important?

With increased professional migration, more and more people in leadership roles are working outside their country of origin. The impact of being an expatriate versus being a citizen on how innovative a leader is has not been researched Our study begins this investigation in the context of Dubai and finds that local citizen leaders are more willing to diverge from procedure than their expatriate counterparts.
