What is it about?

We summarise the most important theories that have been used to study Knowledge Management in Tourism. We also show the geographic distribution of the literature. As a result, we identify the critical research themes investigated and the outcome of Knowledge Management in Tourism applications. Also we reveal critical gaps in the literature and offer promising avenues to advance Knowledge Management in Tourism research field.

Why is it important?

Tourism organizations function in an intensely dynamic and knowledge-based system of stakeholders and networks, and they are exposed to rapid and continuing environmental changes. Tourists generate knowledge in high volumes, share via social media, share, hold high volumes of tacit knowledge, and tourism organizations need to capture and implement KM.

Perspectives

Implementation of knowledge management is needed to enhance processes, services, and products, innovate for sustainable new business models, and enhance value for existing and prospective customers
