What is it about?

Platforms have become key disruptors in the new digital economy where competition for market share with traditional pipe business has become intensified. The purpose of this paper is to examine the startup models adopted by entrepreneurs in launching platform enterprises, and the effectiveness of business incubators across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

The paper highlights the imperative for African Governments to make conscious efforts in driving enabling policies that will help bridge the gaps identified in facilitating the development of the region’s emergent platform economy.

This article is very apt especially in a shared economy where the emphasis has moved from ownership to access. The paper helps startups understand different models for launch and scale in the face of meager resources that may constrain viability.
