What is it about?

This research looks at why people in different countries support or don't support tourism during the COVID-19 pandemic. We studied how scared people were of getting sick and how they felt about tourists to see if it affected their support for tourism. We did this in China, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and Iran.

Why is it important?

This research can help leaders and managers make plans to recover from the COVID-19 crisis. It also provides a starting point for future studies on how people feel about tourism after the pandemic.

Perspectives

This study aims to explore the most salient contributors to residents' support for tourism. As such, the authors measure residents' fear and risk of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and residents' animosity towards tourists as predictors of attitudinal, intentional and behavioural support for tourism in China, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and Iran.
