Preserving algorithmic systems: a synthesis of overlapping approaches, materialities and contexts

What is it about?

This article presents a review of existing literature concerning the preservation of algorithms. We show that exiting literature is split between studies which emphasize the technical aspects of algorithms on one hand, and studies that emphasize the social impacts of algorithms, on the other hand. We find examples of each approach in action and bring them together in order to show a way forward for more comprehensive approaches in the future.
