What is it about?

The growing recognition of the significance of sustainable development (SD) has led to its continuous integration into higher education institution (HEI) curricula. This paper underscores the importance of incorporating SD content into teaching and learning programs while highlighting areas of research demand. It presents findings from a comprehensive study that involved bibliometric analysis and a survey of HEI staff engaged in research and teaching across 36 countries. The study offers insights into the needs of researchers focusing on SD within teaching and learning programs, revealing that congested timetables pose a significant obstacle to sustainability education efforts. The paper concludes by delineating essential measures to address these identified challenges and gaps.
