What is it about?

Sustainable development has emerged as an important concept in past thirty years. Awareness of sustainability issues and development of pro-sustainability attitudes and behaviours are important conditions regarding sustainable development. We have investigated undergraduate students' (preservice teachers and students from humanities) awareness and their attitudes and behaviours in this regard.

Why is it important?

Our study is a baseline survey regarding undergraduate students' awareness of sustainability and their attitudes and behaviours towards sustainability. Such a baseline is important to set direction for curriculum revision in higher education. Moreover, our study adds to the literature on outcomes of sustainability education.

Perspectives

Conducting this research was very exciting for me because this was the first ever empirical study related to education for sustainable development in Pakistan. The findings of the current study have started a debate about the need of sustainability in teacher education in Pakistan. I hope this article will contribute towards debate on the outcomes of sustainability education too.
