What is it about?

Social work is a vital agent of social change in the society. In this sense, social workers are expected to play a central role in the process of sustainable development. However, almost all over the world social work education at higher education level has been mainly focused on the social dimension of sustainable development. Some consideration have been given to the economic dimension, but not much attention has been paid to the ecological dimension in the education, learning and practice of social work. Environmental social work is an approach and a perspective in social work focusing on ecological and environmental sustainability and justice within the context of sustainable development. This article analyses the reflections of a group of students studying a course on 'social work and sustainable development' at master, in order to consider the implications for putting more effort towards environmental social work within the education and practice of social work.
