What is it about?

Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field of science that analyze and interpret biology using computational approach. In this article, we report a structural bioinformatics project carried out to determine structure–function relationships of the uncharacterized prokaryotic 5‐oxoprolinase subunit A (PxpA) using various bioinformatics tools. Ultimately, we were able to form a testable hypothesis on the function of PxpA, an achievement we consider encouraging other students to emulate

Why is it important?

Our findings show that inquiry‐based hands‐on exercises provide the most efficient approach to bioinformatics training. Thus, we encourage other students to explore various bioinformatics tools used in this work to find out structure and functional relationships between various species of organisms and proteins of interest.

Perspectives

This is my first article on Bioinformatics and it was really challenging and exciting trying out new things. Getting an opportunity to understand the evolution between genera of organisms by just constructing a phylogenetic tree using phylogeny.fr was one of the reasons i went for several other bioinformatics training. This article will really look boring to some people but bioinformatics is really an interesting field that everyone must learn. Enjoy various 3D- structures of interesting proteins and big grammars while reading, I hope you find it motivating enough to travel on the path with us.
