What is it about?

Organisational politics has varying levels of impact on the well-being of academic teaching staff, such as depression, suicidal ideation, and high blood pressure. Although the negative aspects are more as compared to the positive side, when engaged in a healthy manner, it can be very beneficial to the individual and organisation. Dr. Daniel Agyemfour-Agyemang Sarpong (daniel.sarpong@ktu.edu.gh) Thank you.

Why is it important?

Organisational politics, although mostly found to be negative, in sub-Saharan Africa, politics among academia is perceived to be positive engagement due to the benefits that members within the circles of academia enjoy at the expense of colleagues. This implies that, the idea of politicking in academia in Africa is different from those in the Western world; hence, contextual elements are important when issues are being presented.

Perspectives

I hope this article gives researchers the opportunity to appreciate context specificity when it comes to the application of leadership styles. The culture of a country plays a key role when it comes to the application of certain theories, and this is what this study tries to point out.
