Why is it important?

This provides a pioneering analysis on how vulnerability approach could be designed better by systematically incorporating the indicators provided by the target beneficiaries of any climate change adaptation efforts.

Perspectives

This work provides a good case on how vulnerability is perceived by the study subjects themselves---in this case are the indigenous peoples. In contrast to the usual externally-determined vulnerability assessment framework and approach, this study shows that the indicators and the eventual aggregation would be significantly improved once the inputs of the study subjects are incorporated. This way, we can ensure that the results of the vulnerability study points clearly to how adaptation efforts would be designed and implemented.
