What is it about?

Our study looks at employee opinions of diversity management and employee performance. Survey data from two organisations in the United Arab Emirates were collected and analysed by age, gender, and nationality. Employee performance improved when diversity was managed for employees of different ages—females and males—working together in a workplace that included employees from other nations.

Why is it important?

Our research has vital social implications because organisational leaders can initiate diversity management programs to improve employee performance. We discussed employee opinions of diversity management and employee performance. In doing so, we collected and analyzed data by age, gender, and nationality for diversity management and employee performance from 250 employees of two organizations in the United Arab Emirates. Results showed that an improvement in employee performance occurred when diversity was managed for employees of different age groups, females and males working together, and in a workplace composed of employees from various nationalities. The value of the study for human resource management practitioners is to consider employees’ opinions on diversity management and the importance of improving employee performance. We encourage more research on diversity management for employee performance in the Middle East region because this study is limited to the UAE.

Perspectives

Our research has a positive societal impact by recognizing the global sustainable goal 5: gender equality.

It was particularly interesting to work with multicultural colleagues to research employee opinion of diversity management and employee performance. We like to add value about diversity management to increase employee performance in the Middle East region and beyond
