What is it about?
Teacher capacity development continues to be a key challenge facing many governments and issues concerning how best to develop the capacity of teachers throughout their careers remain high on the global education agenda. This paper examines teacher capacity development in Cambodia and the model that is outlined in the paper offers a possible way forward to develop the capacity of Cambodia's teachers.

Why is it important?
Teachers are the key resource in education systems and developing their capacity is fundamental to developing sustainable quality education systems. Findings from this paper offer unique insights in how to further develop existing models of professional development in order to effectively build the capacity of teachers.
Perspectives
Having worked as a researcher and educator at the micro, mezo and macro levels of the Cambodian education system I hope that this article may offer further insights for policy makers and those working in development agencies tackling issues of how best to develop the quality of teaching and learning in Cambodia as well as in other countries of the Global South.
